Rockhound State Park - Tours of New Mexico
Experience this little known treasure of the New Mexican
State parks, and possibly bring home a one of a kind
souvenir. |
|
In one of the least-visited areas of New Mexico lies an
area of peculiarity. This area has a hidden history
of small mining communities and amazing mineral
deposits. Silver used to be mined extensively in this
area and there are still several areas with large
quantities of minerals and semi-precious gems all over
the region. One of the more exact locations is
Rockhound State Park, situated on part of the Little
Florida Mountains southeast of Deming, New Mexico. The
park is known for its encouragement of prospecting and
removal of specimens. Visitors are only regulated by a
fifteen-pound weight limit, where as in most national
and state parks the removal of naturally occurring
objects is strictly prohibited. With a welcoming
campground and day-use area, an invigorating hike, and a
small wealth of different minerals to peruse. Rockhound
State Park is an often overlooked treasure that we visit
on our tours of New Mexico. So come
with us on our small group tours and see if you can find a
souvenir to take home. |
