Day 7: Yellowstone National Park – Lamar Valley, Lower Yellowstone Falls

Start with a morning drive through the wildlife rich Lamar Valley, hike along the rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and visit the enormous Lower Yellowstone Falls. Then, travel along Yellowstone lake, through scenic Shoshone Valley or over the Beartooth Highway to the wild west town of Cody, Wyoming.

Day 8: Cody, Wyoming

In the morning you can enjoy a jeep tour through the Red Canyon to see the wild mustangs guided by a local naturalist. In the afternoon we visit five museums under one roof at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming. Evening and night in Cody.

Day 9: Bighorn Mountains – Sheridan, Wyoming

Travel through the Prairie and  over the Bighorn Mountains, watch for wildlife and stunning views, stop at Shell Falls for a walk. Keep an eye out for huge moose that can weigh as much as 600 lbs. (1300 Kilograms.) Weather permitting, visit the sacred Native American site Medicine Wheel. Night in historic Sheridan, WY.

Day 10: Fort Phil Kearny – Devil’s Tower National Monument – Black Hills – Deadwood

Learn about Bozeman Trail history at Fort Phil Kearny. Then drive to see a stunning volcanic formation at Devil’s Tower and discover prairie dog colonies nearby. For the evening we drive to the Black Hills area, watching for bald eagles and mountain goats. 2 nights in Wild West town Deadwood, South Dakota

Day 11: Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park

Today we will visit famous mount Rushmore where portraits of 4 presidents are carved into the side of the mountain, and also  the enormous unfinished carving of Crazy Horse a legendary Lakota chief. Then we will travel through Custer State Park where wild burros and bison wander the rocky landscape. We will hike to beautiful Sylvan Lake, and then continue to Wall, South Dakota, where we will stay in log cabins.

Day 12: Badlands National Park

In the morning we explore the National Grasslands Visitors center, and depending on the season, the Lakota Native Museum. The highlight of today is the unique Badlands National Park where we will travel through vast American prairie and brightly colored rock formations. We will enjoy a few short hikes and watch for the many animals adapted to this region, including pronghorn antelopes, prairie dogs and bighorn sheep. Second night in Wall, South Dakota.

Day 13: Badlands National Park – Soda Springs – Fort Robinson Nebraska – Lusk

Our drive leads through Oglala National Grassland, home of Pronghorn Antelopes and many raptors.  We will visit Hot Springs, South Dakota and explore an archaeological excavation site with it’s extensive collection of mammoth skeletons.  A cultural highlight is a visit to Fort Robinson in Nebraska. Night in Lusk, Wyoming

Day 14: Fort Laramie – Register Cliff – Denver

Explore famous Fort Laramie and learn about American history of the West. Then stop at Register Cliff where immigrants of the Oregon Trail have left their marks in 1850. Explore historic Cheyenne, Wyoming. We spend our last evening and the night in Denver.

Day 15: Tour ends today in Denver – fly home or stay independently
