Discover the history of worldwide space exploration on our small group guided tours of New Mexico.

Rocket, International Space Hall of Fame, New Mexico

The International Space Hall of Fame documents the advances of the Space Age through its many interesting exhibits. Alamogordo, the town which hosts this huge hilltop museum, has been at the heart of the space age movement since its beginning. The Space Hall of Fame interprets and explains many different technological achievements, including early satellites and rockets. More than that it also gives tribute to the many people who have made space exploration possible, including a large chronological series in which many important individuals are honored. As its name implies this International Space Hall of Fame mentions individuals from across the globe – from the USA and Russia to smaller countries including Britain and Switzerland. From astronauts and scientists to important journalists it is fascinating to see the many faces that have made space exploration possible.

Our tours of New Mexico will provide you an opportunity to explore inside and out at the New Mexico Museum of Space History. Learn how satellites send their data, explore various astronaut suits, read about early shuttle test results and look at the F-1 rocket engine. This unit is the most powerful single chamber, liquid fueled rocket engine ever flown. Standing beside this gigantic engine it is interesting to imagine that five of these were used to power the Saturn V rocket which carried men to the moon.

Rocket, Alamogordo, New Mexico ToursEnjoy the view of Alamogordo, White Sands National Monument and the Tularosa Basin from this scenic viewpoint. Surrounded by cactus and desert this area lies close to the Sacramento Mountains on the eastern side of the basin. The basin stretches 150 miles north to south and is about 60 miles across at its widest. White Sands National Monument is within this area. There are no rivers that run out of the basin, so water gets caught in temporary lakes, providing a unique habitat where several species found nowhere else, including the White Sands pup-fish and Oscura Mountains Chipmunk, exist. Alamogordo itself serves two nearby military bases and a lively community.
